Twilight Breaking Dawn: Part II smashes more box office records

It's been one of the most publicised film events of the year.

So it's no surprise that the final installment of the Twilight Saga has beaten off all other competition to top the US box office charts for the third week in a row.

Pulling in $17.4 million during its third weekend, the film just managed to beat Skyfall into second place.

Twilight Breaking Dawn: Part II, which has had a number of premieres and film events all over the world, is reaping the rewards of its heavy promotional drive.

The vampire film, which stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart, has smashed box office records and now earned a total of $254.6 million in North America and Canada since it opened on November 16.

Failing to budge from the top spot, the fifth and final film of the franchise has now broken the £700 million mark globally.
